For a start a wax model of the part is manufactured. This gravity casting aluminium wax model is immersed in a ceramic slurry and covered with a thin, sand-like substance. After the ceramic shell has hardened, the wax is melted out, which leaves a void inside the ceramic shell, that the molten metal can be poured into. Metal is poured in to the ceramic shell, it is cooled and returned to a sold state and the shell is broken off to expose the completed metal piece.
